Professor Andrea Cipriani, has been awarded the Freedom of the City of London, in recognition of the contribution of the project to the development of mental health science.
The Freedom of the City is a traditional ceremony used to honour and recognise those who contribute to the City’s ecosystem, in particular those who have excelled in their fields.
The awards were given as part of the Lord Mayor of London’s (2023-24) ‘Connect to Prosper’ theme, which focuses on the City's expertise and brings together experts to work on critical global challenges.
Professor Cipriani received the honour at the Lord Mayor’s official residence, The Mansion House, along with leading figures from the fields of business, finance, law, education, literature and more, who were recognised for outstanding achievements.
Professor Cipriani commented:
“I am thrilled to receive this prestigious award, as a testament to the work I have been doing with my teams over the last 15 years. One of the most important things we are now doing is GALENOS, which is a very innovative way of using evidence synthesis to foster innovation and discovery, and it fits very well with Connect to Prosper – being a global collaboration that unites people from different fields of expertise.”
GALENOS member, MQ Mental Health Research, is a beneficiary of The Lord Mayor’s Appeal. Support from the Appeal and the City of London continues to help enable projects like GALENOS and other vitally needed mental health research.
Professor Michael Mainelli, Lord Mayor of London 2023-24, said of the ceremony:
"Representing such a wide range of fields of expertise and backgrounds, these remarkable individuals have enriched the Square Mile’s diverse tapestry with their impressive achievements and contributions to public life and in our view, their Freedom awards are richly deserved. Today's ceremony embodies the essence of connectivity that underscores my mayoral theme, ‘Connect to Prosper’, celebrating our many Knowledge Miles and ability to find solutions to our planet's biggest challenges."
